Some “electromagnetic fields (EMFs)… are naturally generated, for instance by the sun, the earth or even our own bodies… [There are also artificial electromagnetic fields which are] produced by household appliances, power lines, power transformers, electrical substations, mobile phones, etc” (Pascual, p. 29).

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) state that “EMFs arise whenever electrical energy is used” (n.p), and that “it has been known for a long time that exposure of people to high levels of EMFs can give rise to acute effects” (n.p).
